Cyclist Performance Session
Posture, power transfer, mobility and recovery – all in one structured session

Cyclists spend long periods locked into a fixed position. Over time this creates predictable patterns of tightness, weakness and compression: rounded shoulders, shortened hip flexors, overworked quads, and fatigued lower backs
Our Cyclist Assessment quickly identifies imbalances so your sports therapy session can be targeted and corrective
A complimentary assessment is included with every Cyclist Performance Session
Why Cyclists Need a Different Approach
Cycling is a repetitive, closed-chain movement. Small inefficiencies lead to:
- quad dominance
- tight hip flexors
- restricted TFL & IT band
- upper-back fatigue
- neck tension from long hours in position
- power loss due to glute under-recruitment
By assessing these areas before treatment, we can tailor your massage for improved comfort, posture, and performance
The Cyclist Asssessment
Postural Snapshot. Fast review of your thoracic curve, lumbar position, shoulder rounding, pelvic tilt. Hightlights typical ‘under pressure’ patterns and upper-body strain
Hip Flexor & Quadriceps Length Check. Thomas and Ober tests with modification to identify imbalances and muscle tension in hips and quads
Glute Activation Check. Bridge and side flexion. Esssential for easing posture-related tightness from long rides
Neck & Upper Trap mobility. Rotation and side flexion. Informs posture related scapula mobilisation
Ankle mobility & Foot Position Review. Dorsiflexion check + foot pressure. Baxter’s testing for plantar fascia health. Poor mobility or alignment affects pedal stroke efficiency
Palpation Scan: Quads > Hamstrings > TFL > Lower Back. Quick tension mapping of key cycling hotspots. Helps you identify where you’re overloading and why
Common FIndings in Cyclists
Most cyclists show:
- tight hip flexors
- overdeveloped quads
- underactive glutes
- restricted thoracic mobility
- neck.trap tightness
- IT band tension
- weak posterior-chain engagement
Your treatment is then tailored to rebalance these areas
How It Shapes Your Treatment
With assessment data, we can:
- release overworked muscles
- activate and fire-up underused stabilisers
- improve posture on and off the bike
- reduce knee, hip, and lower back irritation
- guide you on form, saddle comfort, and mobility routines
This is sports therapy adapted to the real mechanics of cycling
Benefits for Cyclists
- Better posture and comfort in the saddle
- Increased power transfer
- Reduced quad dominance
- Faster recovery
- Improved hip mobility
- Less neck and upper-back fatigue
- More balanced pedal stroke
